2008 has been a great year for me and I hope that 2009 will only get better.

So here are some of my goals for 2009:

Make more videos! It has been a while since I posted a video blog on here, and my other show has also taken a little break…but I am hoping that 2009 will be a great year full of great videos!
Go to SXSW! SXSW last year was one of the main things that inspired me to start a video blog. I hope to attend the conference this year and get even more great ideas!
Reach 1,000 followers on twitter! This would be awesome, and I am already so thankful for all the followers I have that put up with my random updates!
To grow my community and network of awesome people because everyone I have met in this space so far is AWESOME! And I can’t wait to meet the rest of you!
And to be anywhere near as awesome as this guy!

2008 has been great, and just wait….

2009 is going to be even better!

College Humor show on MTV

Anyone who knows me should know that I love Jake and Amir! (Learn more on Wikipedia)

Recently reuters.com reported that MTV is developing a slate of eight new “aspirational, enterprising and empowering” series for 2009 as part of a push to ramp up the network’s original programing.

“These new series reflect Generation ‘Why Not?’ — living, working and playing on their own terms, ‘adventure capitalists’ if you will, pursuing a variety of thrill-seeking, 2.0, express-yourself enterprises,” said Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV Networks Music Group.

One of these shows is “The College Humor Show,” which takes a look at the “offbeat” workplace of the twentysomething-run Web site CollegeHumor.com. On his tumblr Jake writes

“despite what some sources are saying it’s not a reality show- in fact we all spent a lot of time writing it. Get pumped!”

Here is the preview for the show:

I couldn’t be more excited!

Networking: how much is too much?

Most of us have been taught that networking is a good thing right? “It’s all about who you know” At what point does all this “networking” become useless? Don’t get me wrong I love meeting new people and I think that was one of the main reasons I started going to all these events in the first place. But sometimes I wonder, am I networking, or just making friends? Or is it the same thing.

Gary’s Guide is a popular site for media and tech events that many people will use when planning their schedule. But how are you supposed to filter through all these events. The events listed just for Wed. Dec 17th is enough to make your head spin.

Sometimes there are crazy weeks where I seem to be at an event every night. Sometimes more than 1 a night. I have often found myself forgetting events because they were splashed across so many different social networks. I have tried to export everything to the calender on my phone but sometimes I miss something. How are we supposed to keep up with all these events? And what are we gaining from it?

These are some questions I often ask myself. Being in the tech scene in NYC you could easily go to a new event every night, but would that help you achieve your career goals? At this point in my life I am very young and the word “career” doesn’t seem to have a lot of focus. So I wonder if all this “networking” that I am doing will benefit me in any way, but along with all the business networking I have made some pretty amazing friends along the way. Being part of such a thriving tech community has truly added value to my life.

Do you think that networking events have helped your career? How many networking events are you attending these days?

Fairwell Pownce

Pownce

Today, Dec 15 is the final day that Pownce lives! Many started using Pownce after Kevin Rose talked about it on diggnation. We formed a bond, we crashed Y! Live servers, we created a yearbook!

It was one of the best communities I have ever been a part of. Everyone was so nice and Pownce was the first community to add me as a featured user! To have Leah Culver email you because she likes the content you are putting up on Pownce and ask you if she can make you a featured user, well it just made me feel like I was doing something right.

So we will all miss you Pownce, nothing will take your place.
