So as some of you may know, I am in southern California this week, visiting some friends, going to a church conference, and on Friday I will fly up to San Fran to visit some grad schools up in the Bay Area. So far my trip had been a lot of fun, and I know you must all be missing random sarah updates but here is a quick recap!

Flew to Oakland..had a 2 hr layover, got in to Long Beach…waited on the ground for 30 mins after a whole jet blue flight with NO TV Got to my friends house, hacked my iPhone…went live on Qik…A LOT!

Found out you can be a vegetarian and still eat In-N-Out burger ::yum!:: …streamed on Qik some more…had great green tea … drove and drove and drove (cause no one walks in Cali) ate at Marie Callender’s (it was ok) went to Wal-Mart for the first time (did you know they sell goldfish?) , tried to stream on Qik but there was no 3G in Wall-Mart Searched for fellow vegetarians…not much luck …. almost met up with Gary Vaynerchuk in LA but he had to leave early …. played with friends… went to a lot of church meetings… and now I am writing this post when I probably should be taking a nap

So when I had a first the iPhone I was very afraid to hack my phone. I knew a lot of people who had it hacked and loved it. But I was holding out for 2.0 and the app store. To me it didn’t seem like there were any killer apps I NEEDED to hack my phone for. Until now… A few days ago I posted that Qik had come out for the iPhone 3G but only through hacked iPhone’s. Since the iPhone technically does not record video, Apple could not allow an app that would stream video live to the internet. But Qik released it anyway for hacked phones.

Now since live video is something that I love, this was enough to make me hack my iPhone. So I did! Last night using the iPhone dev teams Pwnage tool it was really very simple to hack the phone. So you might be wondering why I feel safer now than before? I guess it comes from the fact that when you hack an iPhone running 2.0 you still have access to the app store. So all the other apps I am running are Apple approved apps so I feel safer. Plus I know I can always restore the phone to the original software.So I have added a Qik embed to the random sarah live page, and you can follow me on Twitter for updates when I go live

So viddler annouced today a TON of crazy new features! And I could not be more excited about it!

They have givin us a CRAZY spoiler alert!

They will be at the New Media Expo and they are releasing a TON of new features… Such as a fully customizable video player, delivery through iTunes and rss…making it the easiest way to start a podcast and deliver it through iTunes!

**spoiler alert! look for a random sarah podcast hitting up your itunes soon!**

Also they are allowing you to have the videos link back to your own site, not the viddler site (EPIC)

I cannot wait for these changes to take effect! The viddler team is TOTALLY changing the way internet video works!

I have really been looking forward to Qik on the iPhone, but this news today is really depressing. There are so many great developers out there and to see an app that would change the way so many of us communicate only be avalible on jailbroken iPhones just makes me sad.

A while back, Qik announced that they would be creating a video broadcast client for the iPhone. When they first announced it, Qik was only available in a limited beta to jailbroken phones. However, Qik has announced that all jailbroken 1.1.4 iPhones will be able to get the client through Installer.app. Since Apple hasn’t yet allowed streaming video using the iPhone’s camera, jailbreaking is the only way to use Qik.

Qik, as you may already know, is a way to broadcast live, streaming video from a mobile device. While they are not offering an App Store version of their client, you can download it via Installer.app by adding “http://qik.com/iphone1″ to your sources list. If you are using iPhone 2.0 software, you might be able to downgrade to 1.1.4, however, the risks outweigh any advantages you might get.

There seems to be a growing field of jailbreak applications as Apple continues to disallow some SDK-built apps. Even though we have the official SDK, there are still too many limitations for some apps and their users.

Some of my viewers have been saying that my videos were getting a little long for them to watch…So I am testing out a new 2 mins or less format

So the other night we were all hanging out on ustream.tv with Gary Vaynerchuk talking about Gary’s Thunder Cruise! It was a lot of fun and a lot of stuff went down..like I made 2 videos about why I want to go on the thunder cruise and why people should donate to send me. Here is the video of Gary watching my videos and his reaction!

I want to go because it would be a great opportunity for me to taste some wine, expand my palette, and (as a blogger) to get some great networking in… plus there are rumors of a live diggnation going down..and we all know how much I love those!

I want to get a ton of stuff to give away to all of you who donate!
